Business Goal
The goal of developing a personal inventory app is to assist individuals dealing with hoarding tendencies to manage and organize their belongings more effectively. This app will provide a comprehensive platform to categorize, track, and prioritize items, helping users make informed decisions about their possessions. The ultimate aim is to promote decluttering, reduce hoarding behaviors, and enhance the overall well-being of individuals struggling with hoarding tendencies.
Specific Objectives
-
Simplify Inventory Management: Develop an app that simplifies the process of managing belongings for individuals struggling with hoarding tendencies. The app should provide an intuitive interface and streamlined features for adding, categorizing, and organizing items.
-
Promote Organization and Decluttering: Encourage users to declutter and organize their belongings by offering customizable categories, subcategories, and tags. The app should facilitate efficient searching and retrieval of items, promoting a more organized living environment.
-
Enhance Emotional Well-being: Address the emotional aspects of hoarding by incorporating features that acknowledge sentimental attachments users may have to their possessions. The app should provide support, encouragement, and motivational features to help users overcome resistance to discarding items.
Research Goal
To gather insights and understand the needs, challenges, and preferences of individuals with hoarding tendencies in managing their belongings, in order to inform the development of a highly effective and user-centric personal inventory app.
Methodology
-
Contextual interviews were conducted with individuals who struggle with hoarding tendencies to gain deep insights into their behaviors, needs, and challenges. Observed and interviewed participants in their natural environment, in their homes on a home tour, to understand their daily routines, decision-making processes, and the role their belongings play in their lives.
-
Second-hand research was conducted gathering information and insights from existing sources such as academic papers, books, reports, surveys, and online resources for professional knowledge. It provides a way to access knowledge and findings that have already been collected and analyzed by people at the top of the industry on the topic of hoarding and self management.
